La Reina sin Nombre

Hace unos años estaba haciendo tiempo en la librería de El Corte Inglés y me encontré este libro que llamó mi atención tanto por su portada, como por su título. La novela histórica me gusta mucho y sé muy poco de la historia antigua de España así que sin pensarlo más, lo cogí y me lo llevé a casa.
Con tantos libros que tenía, y tengo, pendientes por leer y las lecturas para la universidad, lo he ido dejando hasta que se ha dado el momento perfecto.

La historia transcurre en el siglo V, en una España dividida entre el imperio bizantino, los visigodos, los suevos y los pueblos libres del norte. En estos pueblos, en el valle de Arán, vive una niña huérfana adoptada por un antiguo druida. Él le enseña las artes de la curación y un día encuentran a un joven herido. Ella cuidará a este hombre hasta su recuperación y, bueno, pues se enamoran como pasa siempre en estos casos.
Pero ella pertenece a otro mundo al que más tarde tendrá que volver sacrificando su felicidad. Su destino está en la corte del reino godo, donde su única felicidad serán sus hijos y ella será simplemente un arma política.

El libro en sí no me ha gustado mucho porque no me gusta cómo está escrito. Las descripciones son redundantes y rebuscadas para mi gusto y a veces creo que se va un poco por las ramas, pero la historia en sí es muy buena, lo que ha hecho que lo haya leído hasta el final. Creo que es la primera novela de esta autora y supongo que el estilo se va puliendo con la práctica, me parece admirable la gente que es capaz de escribir libros y más con una base histórica a la que ceñirse, donde hay que tener en cuenta la situación política y religiosa, las costumbres, los lugares y construcciones de la época, los personajes importantes de entonces... Por supuesto ya inventarse todo un mundo me parece alucinante y complicadísimo!

Ahora me tocará leer algo rápido, que el semestre empieza el martes y me da que voy a tener que leer hasta que se me caigan los ojos con las asignaturas que he elegido :P Como siempre, se admiten sugerencias!!

Some years ago, I was playing for time at a book store when I found this book that called my attention both for its front and its title (something like The Queen without Name). I really enjoy historical fiction and I know little of Spain's ancient History, so I took the book home. 

With so many books that I had (and still have) pending and all the reading I had to do for university, I had to wait for the best time to read it.

The story takes place in the 5th Century, in a Spain divided between the Byzantine Empire, the Visigoths, the Swabians and the free folk on the North. In these Northern villages, in the Arán valley, lives an orphan girl adopted by a former Druid who teaches her the art of healing. One day they find an injured young man and she is in charge of his healing, so she takes care of him until he recovers and, well, they fall in love as it always happens in these cases.

But she belongs somewhere else, where, later, she will have to go back to sacrificing her own happiness. Her destiny awaits her in the court of the Goth kingdom, where her only joy will be her children and where she's important just as a political weapon.

I didn't like the book very much but just because I don't like the way it's been written. Descriptions are redundant and over-elaborated to my liking and sometimes just beats around the bush, but the story is good in itself and that's why I read it until the end. I think this is the authoress' first novel and I suppose her style will polish with practice, I admire writers a lot and I admire them the more when they have to be faithful to historical moments, always having in mind the customs, the political and religious state of things, the places and buildings of the time... Of course making up a whole new world amazes me incredibly!

Now I'll have to make a fast reading as the term starts next Tuesday and something tells me that with my election of subjects I will have to read until my eyes bleed :P As always, any suggestions will be very welcome!
